Having lived in North Texas all my life, there is one thing we can never predict with certainty, and that is the weather. Meteorologist may get close but when it comes to rain here in Texas there is a 50% chance they’ll get it right.
I can’t tell you how many times I have gone to work thinking there was no chance of precipitation only to pack the stuff up and head back. At other times, when its reported that its going to be for sure, it never happens or its not as bad. So you wasted a partial to whole day thinking it was not worth heading out.
At other times there may not be any precipitation where your at but move over to a different part of town and things may be different.
In order to deal with this we have set aside 3 days as make up days due to rain. Our process is to let the clients know via email or some other form of communication and then start to work on catching up. If we get rained out 1 day, we work on the missed day plus the regular schedule and try to get as much done as possible. Its rare that we get rained out 3 days in a row but it has happened.
By planning ahead we make sure that we can service our clients even if it rains. That’s the reason for having 3 days open for catch up days. By not planning for rain delays your set to have angry customers, hectic workload, and the possibility of lost revenue.
So make room in your schedule for weather delays. Also, if you have employees make sure they understand that the may have to work those days that they normally don’t. It’s just part of the job. I hope this helps you in your business and best of luck.
